Model Number: FRS26HF7BW0 Brand: Frigidaire Age: 5 - 10 years
Had an issue with either the damper sticking open or the thermostat sticking and leaving the damper open. Freezer was fine, refrigerator would freeze up. Installed the control box kit. Now, the damper cycles open and closed every 5-15 seconds, and the system never goes into defrost, as the evaporator coil freezes up after 24 hours or so and eventually both fridge and freezer fail to cool properly.
I can override the adaptive defrost control and run the defrost cycle automatically by engaging the refrigerator light switch 5 times within 6 seconds, so I assume that the heater and defrost thermostat is good. Plus, I never had a defrost problem (or continuosly cycling damper) with the previous controls. Does the new kit have a bad ADC, or could this be something else. Ads By Google Related Models |

I figured out what the problem was, and am posting it in case someone researching the same problem stumbles upon this thread. There is a 3 prong plug in the new control box that connects to the damper limit switch controls. One of the prongs is "staggered". When the factory chimp plugged it onto the damper, he missed the spade terminal on the staggered (longer) prong. The damper continuosly opened and closed because it didn't know what position the damper was in, which must have fooled the ADC into not operating the defrost system. I plugged it in correctly, and now I'm back in business.

I had the same issue. I replaced the unit you speak of and i had the same symptoms. If it was not for your post I would have never realized the tech i hired missed the connector causing the damper to open and close every 5-15. He did find the problem with the faulty part but didn't know how to install it. Thanks once again for taking the time to post your experience.

I tried this solution as well, but no go. To recap, 1st I bought a new evap fan but it wasn't the problem, the ADC was bad. I ordered the new ADCV because that's what I was sent so my damper had two switches I connected the one closest to the foam or farthest from the motor. My damper never stops running. I checked all of the connections and it still doesn't work correctly. After about 24 hours the freezer side is frozen and i have to manually defrost it. I guess I will order a new ADC and damper so everything is already connected. I am only posting incase anyone else is as frustrated as me!!!
