Default warm fridge
Model Number: KBRC36FKS00   Brand: Kitchen Aid   Age: 5 - 10 years

I recently purchased an evaporator fan and motor from Appliancepartspros.com for a Kitchen Aid built in fridge with a bottom freezer. The motor was easy to place but the motor still would not kick on. I ran a diagnostic which indicated that the motor wasn't responding (which I already knew). Any suggestions. The unit is a little over 5 years an is a KBRC36FKS00.

What was shown on the water filter status indicator when you ran a self diagnostic test?

Did you run it according to the service and wiring sheet?

I think so. I pushed the water filter reset and power buttons as indicated on the the directions for the fridge. Then advanced the test using the WFR button only. This is what I got: 1-1, 2-1, 3-2, 4-1, 5-2, 6-1 and 7-1. The 3-2 indicates that the evaporator fan isn't on I think. But I just replaced it. Could it be the mother board? The fridge beeps every couple of minutes and I want it fixed asap. What do you think?

The 5-2 reading means the compressor was off. You should run the compressor test again after at least 7 minutes interval.
Did you do it?
If you did, what was the result?

Perform all tests, described in the service manual to find out what exactly is wrong.

If there is something wrong with the compressor, it has very good manufacturer warranty.

I ran the test again and the compressor turned on. The indicator went to 5-1 so it's OK. I am downloading the manual now and will follow your instructions. I will say though, that the freezer (bottom) is working fine. So the compressor is working. The fridge is cool, (41 degrees) but not the usual 35 degrees. So I think the problem may be in the evaporator fan relay (electronics) since the fan circulates freezer air to the fridge (top). The manual states that the service alarm beeps if the evaporator fan relay isn't functioning and it isn't. So there must be a problem with the relay. How is this fixed?

Test for DC voltage to the evaporator fan motor as described on the page 62 and, if it's wrong, go to the main board (#11 on the upper unit parts break down diagram) test on the page 65.

Possible the problem is there.

- The part number for the main control board AP3767641
