My ice dispenser got clogged and wasn't dispensing ice. I removed the ice hopper, emptied it and insured the auger was working properly. I double checked to insure that the motor was working and all seemed OK. My ice maker began making ice and dumping into the hopper. However, when I try to get ice from the door, no ice. The motor runs but the auger does not turn.
When troubleshooting, I discovered that the coupling, which is attached to the motor that turns the auger will just rotate on the threads of the motor shaft with even the slightest of resistance. I assume that the threads of the coupling have stripped due to our attempted use of the dispenser while it was clogged. It appears that the coupling should just spin off the treads of the motor shaft, but I can not get it to come off.
Is my diagnosis of stripped threads on the coupling correct? How do I get the coupling off?
