Hello Gene.

I have a 5 year old model KSRL25FRST04 fridge. Just shy of owning it a year, the dispenser motor had to be replaced. Several months ago, the dispenser again stopped working. It still does a terrific job of producing ice. If I empty the ice bin and ensure the path is clear, the dispenser will work once or twice, and then stop dispensing again. It SOUNDS like it's trying to work, but nothing comes out.

Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated!

Hello,

Remove the ice bin and check the coupling (#16 at the diagram). Ifthere is nothing wrong, remove the motor and test it as described in the attached file.

Thanks a zillion, Gene. I'll do that tonight. Will I be able to tell straight away if it's the coupling? Will it be obviously cracked or broken, somehow?

I've replaced the optics board and the ice maker but still no ice. The optics work as described (solid red light when flap is closed). I get water when I jumper the correct two on the ice maker. I also manually filled the ice tray but ice is never ejected. The ice maker is getting power. So I'm at a loss on what else it could possibly be except a bad replacement ice maker?

What is the exact measured temperature in the freezer?

What is the complete model number of the refrigerator?

What is the part number of the ice maker you installed?

Hi Gene,

Ice is frozen solid. Temperature is saying -15 degrees Farenheit. Fridge is a kitchenaid KSRG25FKSS17. Ice maker is 2198597 - it appears to be the correct replacement.

Hi Chris,

-15°F is to low for the ice maker to work properly. The normal ambient temperature for the ice maker is 0°F. You have to adjust the settings for the freezer temperature.

Wow - ok. I've seen it go to 0 degrees, but when then compressor is running it chills to -15. What is the temp variance for the icemaker? I've seen we don't want it warmer then 0 but would -5 be ok?

The normal temperature range is -2°F to 5°F.
