It's also a good time to clean the condenser.

Gene.
It seems to be the inverter that is shot. I'm going to install a new one and see if that will stand the compressor.

Default Kitchen Aid KSRG25FKBL03

I have the aboove model kitchen aid side by side that recently quit making ice.

I have checked the optics by simulating a closed door and that appears to be working correctly from what I have read in the previous posts.

It does dispense water thru the door and ice if filled manually. I have also checked for blockage in the filling tube and found none. The ice maker never calls for water.

I have rotated the fingers of the ice maker manually and can hear it click but it never turns on its own.

Any ideas?

Swap the wires between the water valve solenoids. Push the water dispenser lever for a few seconds and check for water inside the ice maker.

If there is some water, replace the ice maker.

If there is no water, replace the water inlet valve.

- The ice maker Part number: 2198597

Part number: 2198597

- The water inlet valve Part number: W10408179

Part number: W10408179

I installed the new inverter and the compressor started right up. 24 hrs later, my fridge was cold and ice was in the ice maker. Has been working great ever sense.

Thanks for your help!

Gene thanks for your quick reply.

Can you describe for me how to swap the wires between the water valve solenoids?

Where are they located? So what your saying is that when swapped the water dispenser will trigger water flow into the ice maker. Correct?

Gene one additional question.

If I do need to replace the icemaker what is the difference between the part here on appliance pro's website versus one sold on Filter Fast for substantially less money.

Thanks.

The water valve is located on the back of the refrigerator. It has two solenoids: one for the ice maker and the other one for the water dispenser. Each of them has 2 wires connected to. By swapping the wires, the power from the water dispenser lever will come and energize the ice maker solenoid. If this solenoid is good and there is nothing with the water line to the ice maker, water should come into the ice maker.

About any other web site who may sell the same parts - did you check their return policy? 15% restocking fee and only 30 days for only unused parts? What are you going to do if your diagnosis was wrong and you would like to return the ice maker which you already installed?

Their price looks so suspicious, I would not surprise if they sell refurbished parts as new.
