We have a three year old Whirlpool with icemaker that started making plastic tasting ice. We changed supply hose, threw out old ice, put baking soda in ice tray, no luck. My wife came up with the idea of lining the tray with aluminum foil. The b-soda is still in there since it seemed to do some good, but the foil really did the trick. I can't taste plastic in icewater, even eating cubes. Hope this works for others. I've found lots of posts on this problem but never this answer.

Replacing the water filter should also be on your basic maintenance schedule.
