Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

I do not think there are other reliable ways. You have to have a simple multimeter and they are about $20 only. No one water filter lasts more than 1 year.

Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.

Being careful to not touch the wire with your bare hands, just hold them to the other connectors while someone trys the water dispenser.

Check the water feeding tube into the ice maker. If it's not frozen then the water inlet valve is bad.

You have to address such questions to the customer service. I do not work for Appliance Parts Pros.
