I have diagnosed that the defrost timer is not advancing.
All other part are satisfactory (heaters, and thermostat)
The part store did not have the OEM part and I agreed to purchase a “universal defrost timer”. The part will work but requires a little knowledge of the system application, as there are three different wiring possibilities.
1. Continuous run hookup
2. Cumulative run hookup
3. Cumulative compressor run hookup
It request’s the user to refer to the electrical wiring diagram as to which application is in use.
I can not locate such, just part diagrams.
Can anyone help??

GE always used a fixed defrost period, so that timer should work fine in your fridg.

But do you think that this fixed time will work on other brands too. I think it should vary from fridge to fridge and from company to company.

Different fridgs use different timers with different wiring, the timer AP2635479 is the same as the WR9X482 which replaced the old mechanical timer WR9X330. If I remember right, it is a 20 minute defrost period and a 9 hour period between defrost.
