The unit stopped cooling today. A buzzing and clicking was heard. fan is running. I opened the back and discovered a lot of dust. The compressor body was very hot and took a long time to cool down.
A multimeter across the compressor's top pin and far bottom pin reads 5.7 - 6.1 ohms A multimeter across the compressor's top pin and near bottom pin reads 3.9 ohms.
The first reading is slightly out of range (1-5 ohms recommended in this forum)
Do I have a bad compressor?
Thanks,

The compressor readings only verify the windings are not open. Remove the start device, if it looks burnt, order a new one AP4013414

Thank you, I've pulled the relay start module and run capaciter. I don't see that it looks burnt, but have ordered a replacement from you. The profile, terminals, etc appear different on mine as opposed to the one you forwarded. It has a different Mfgrs' number than but looks more like: Part Details - WHIRLPOOL Overload, Relay, part number: AP4078361

Your compressor terminals are upside down, the common terminal is on the bottom, if I understand your resistance readings properly. The replacement device should work in your compressor, just inform us if any problems.
