Refrigerator & Freezer Repair

Hi guys,
I have learned that the refrigerator average life is around 14 years. Since, my is from 1999, and not working well, I have decided to buy a new one. All my appliances are Frigidaire and I would like to buy a Frigidaire refrigerator. My concern is I have been told they are not good. I would like to know if this is a rumor and if I can go safe with another Frigidaire.

I have seen a lot of bad compressors/refrigeration problems with 3- 6 year old Frigidair's
I would stick with GE and verify it has service data behind the control panel, or buy one without a motherboard.
