I noticed a burning smell being emitted by fans under refrigerator and some relay seems to be clicking often. Smells like burnt semi-conductor but could be like burnt dust. We vacuumed out underneath and was vacuumed out 6 months ago. Dust doesn't seem to be an inordinate accumulation. Smell still seems to be continually emitted by fans enough to notice while walking by but not enough to choke on. Ten hours later (the following morning) the food in the freezer seems to be thawing.

Any ideas?

Your compressor start device has failed, just pry it off the side of the compressor to confirm. Order it here, AP3083556. Take a picture of the wiring to it before removing wires. If totally burned up, tell us for additional info.
