Our freezer on the refrigerator is not freezing completly. It freezes then defrosts for too long and food thaws out.

Where is the thermostate located and do you think that is the problem.

I think the problem is the defrost thermostat which is a short round cylinder clamped to the evaporator coil behind the back cover in the freezer. Part 35 on this diagram and parts list. This bi metal defrost prevents the heater from overheating the freezer.
