Model Number: GD5RHAXNT00 Brand: Whirlpool Age: 5 - 10 years
I have found large amounts of ice in the bottom of my side by side freezer. I took everthing apart turned the water back on there were not any water leaks. I found the one thing that maybe the cause, on the drip pan ,(bottom of the freezer) there is a hole that should align the drip pan to the extension tube taking the defrosted water to the pan outside of the freezer. They do not align up the part that takes the water out of the freezer , is not connected to the drip pan but it is on the freezer liner, Should this be connected to the drip pan or where it is now?

It should be attached to the drip pan.
If it is a loose fit cut off half an inch and reattach. Also check that the tubing is not clogged or clogged at the drip pan with dust bunnies etc. If it is often some warm water and a turkey baster will clear it. If there is stuff growing in it flush it with a 10 % bleach solution. Let it sit for 15 minutes and then do it again. This should kill and flush the stuff out. Just be careful not to overflow the drip pan under the unit. This would also be a good time to clean/check your condenser coils and it's fan.
