Model Number: gsl25jfpabs Brand: GE Age: 5 - 10 years
I have a GE gsl25jfpabs side by side and it's not cooling properly. The freezer side is cold but is not staying cold enough to freeze anything. I have replaced the defrost thermostat. All 3 thermistors have tested in the normal range when cold. All of the fans are working and the defrost heater tested normal and is working. When I remove the back panel only the bottom of the evaporator coils are frosted, the top 2/3 is completely dry. The ice maker will produce a small amount of ice. It sounds like the compressor is running normally
The refrigerator side damper is wide open and doesn't seem to be closing at all so it's staying cool. I have adjusted the control knobs all the way up to 9 with no change, they are currently set on 6 which is where they have always usually been set. Any help is appreciated, thanks. The above sounds like the unit is low on freon. Another symptom of this would be that the unit runs continuously but cannot reach the set point temperature. Take a look at the 3 example pictures part way down the page on the following http://www.applianceaid.com/frig_notcold.html If this is the case it will be an expensive repair as you will need a pro. Also there is no use putting freon into it unless they can find the leak and that may not be possible. Often it makes more sense to put those dollars towards a new unit.
