Hi, I have a Whirlpool ED5FTGXKT01 refrigerator. I live in Argentina so I'm using a 2000W 220V-110V transformer for it. The thermistor disc inside the starting device broke into tiny pieces so the compressor won't start.
I found a replacement thermistor locally, but it is rated for 220V. What I want to know is: will it work? The guy from the repair shop told me it will work for sure, but I'd like to know if using it will have impact on the compressor's life or not.
Can any guru over here solve my doubt?
Many thanks in advance, kind regards,
Marton

The 220 volt start device is designed around 2x the voltage as the original device,AP3885081. Thus, the new device will supply 1/2 the starting current and it's internal overload device will trip out at 1/2 the current.
Either this device will not reliably start the compressor, or it will trip out frequently on a small overload.

So that means I will order the replacement and wait 15~20 days for it to arrive. Oh well. Many thanks for clearing it up, richappy!!

To prevent burnouts in the future and if you have a meter, use the discrete ptcr ( a small black item) and the klixon, a thin, white item, all supplied in the kit. Notify us to get install info if the directions with the kit are confusing.

I think I will try to use the thermistor disc from the new device in the old one (if I can), to keep it original.
I'll post for sure with the result, thanks!!!

Just a follow up, few months later. In the end, I didn't use the disc, I replaced the whole device and the fridge is working perfectly. I bought an universal kit so I got 3 different start devices. Since I just used one, I have spare discs for the long future when it breaks again :)
Thanks again, richappy!
