Model Number: RB21JN-4A Brand: Magic Chef Age: More than 10 years
Ok, so I know there are a million posts from people asking why their freezer is freezing, and the fridge is warm. Trust me, I've read most of them! Of course I am having the same problem, with the addition of the ice that sloooowly creeps out of the vents in the top of the fridge section until they are completely blocked.
I have figured out, based on various posts/replies, that my problem is with the defrost timer, defrost thermostat or defrost heater. What I can't figure out is where to find the defrost timer on my particular model. I know this website provides some diagrams of this model, but in the picture, it shows the timer just kind of floating off to the side of some other parts. Is it on the bottom in the back of the fridge (by the compressor, etc.)? That's what it kind of looks like, but I don't want to start digging unless I know I'm in the right place. Are there any diagrams that give a little more detail on the location? Or maybe a person who just knows where it is? Any help would be very much appreciated. Also, please let me know if I'm heading down a completely wrong path! Thanks in advance... Ads By Google Related Models |

Looks to me that it is in the machine compartment.
May be behind the kick plate or at the back. Often you cannot see it as it is mounts on the back side of a bracket. Normally though there is a hole in the bracket so you can manually force a defrost. Sometimes they are in with the main temperature thermostat but due to the wonderful detail of the parts breakdown from Magic Chef I could not even find that.

Thanks for trying...I'm having a heck of a time with this! I think part of the problem is that I don't really know what it is that I'm looking for. I have no idea how big a defrost timer is or what it really looks like! Those diagrams are terrible.
