A model number may help others help you.
You may have checked your coils just after a defrost cycle and that is why there was no frost. Since the freezer is cold there will be frost on the coils after a couple hours of run time. You do not have a defrost problem, for defrost to cause problems the coils must be iced/frosted over to the point that the fan cannot pull air through them. Just to be sure the freezer is cold enough measure the tem[perature, should be 0 to 5 degrees F. If OK Many units have a damper between the freezer and the fresh food side, it regulates tha amount of cold air entering the freskh food side. Perhaps it is not opening.
