It sounds like your compressor is not running. You could either have a bad compressor, or the overload and relay kit is bad on the compressor. I would replace the overload and relay first. Tom

thanks Tom. I guess I can find the part(s) easily enough?
Here's some up-to-date info on the temperatures: This is a side-by-side unit: The lower area of the freezer is 20 deg. The upper area of the freezer is 45 deg. The lower area of the refrigerator is 49 deg. The upper area of the refrigerator is 60 deg. This is day 3. |

Ping, in your first e-mail, I quote "neither side is getting cold." To me that means no cold air. But, in your updated temperatures, you are getting cooling, but not good temps. So we need to to do an about face. ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Time to drop back and punt!!!! Seriously, this is a whole new ballgame. I had to ask my wife to hit me, to stop these metaphors. LOL!!!!!! Ping, here is what I want you to do. Open the freezer door, and go almost all the way down to the bottom of the freezer, and look at the back wall of the freezer, and see if there is a frost build up. I also want toy to tell me if the fan is running in the freezer. If all is well there, I want you to go to the back of the refrigerator, and take the bottom back panel off, and tell me if the motor with the fan blade is running. Then, we can come to the bottom of this. Tom ******************************************** |

Sorry 'bout the misleading info.
Ok...inside, back panel of the freezer has frost build up. There's a register (similar to the ac registers on the floor of the house). It's 50% frosted over. Inside the freezer, something is running (i guess a fan). Took the back panel off (from outside, back of refrigerator). Removed 6.4 lbs of dust. The fan is turning. The Refridgerator inside temp is getting warmer (but I haven't checked actual the temp). Good news: I've found food that I didn't know we had. thanks, stan |

Stan the Man!!! We have a defrost problem. Listen if you have a ohm meter you can check the defrost thermostat for continuity. If you don't, it most likely is not your problem. If you just want to fix it, and not mess around the parts would cost about $50.00, and you can be done with it.
First thing is to take the back off the frezzer, and defrost the coil, with a blow dryer, and then on the top of the coil is the defrost thermostat, it is about the size of a quarter, and has 2 wires coming to it. Replace it! Part # 216872200. Then put the freezer section back together, and then take the bottom front kick plate off the refrigerator, and on the bottom left hand side is the defrost timer. Replace it! Part # is 215846602. Then you will be the hero!!! Tom |

SWEEEEET. Thanks for the quick replies! I'll get parts ordered this afternoon.
Also, we're leaving to out of town for the weekend, and I'm about to leave the house until the afternoon. Is the fridge okay to run "as-is" until the parts come in? I did notice that the fan on the back of the unit had cycled off during the night, but it's back on now. thanks again!!! |
