Howdy, my GE fridge is on the fritz. I am getting no ice and no water from the front dispenser. I have done a fair amount of reading on forums and have looked at most possible issues. The lines are all clear of ice and I just replaced the solenoid valve today.

I should have checked this earliet, but today (after the new solenoid valve failed to correct the problem), I checked that water was actually getting to the valve (my Aha moment!).

The main water line into the fridge goes straight into a Smartwater filter unit at the top of the fridge; which then drops back down to the solenoid valve. There is adequate water pressure from the line in from the wall but it turns out that water is not making it back down to the valve from the filter unit!

Does anyone have expereince with this? I don't want to try to take the filter unit apart unless I get some advice from some pros out there, so please help. I am tempted to bypass the filter unit altogether and just connect the line in to the solenoid valve but I would rather do this right.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
