The insulation at the back, bottom of the refrigerator is well past its prime. I gather this part has been discontinued by the manufacturer. Not surprising since the refrigerator is around 40 years old - but works just fine.

Do you have any recommendation on how to make a replacement part? It's made of very heavy duty cardboard on the outside. Glued to it is insulation which fits inside the metal frame.

Thank you,

Joyce

As far as I know it is just there for noise insulating.

So if the unit is quiet enough for you I would just remove the insulation from the board.

There is insulation with a foil back available often at hardware/lumber stores.
You could get some of this and glue it to the board.

If the board is shot just make another one out of heavy cardboard,
It is important that the vents are in the same place as this effects air flow under the unit.
