I experienced the problem before and changed the thermostat. That was five weeks ago. Now today, the same problem occurred. The unit just stops cooling for some reason. If I tap on the panel where the temp knobs are the machine will start up.

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL ED22DWXTN02 REFRIGERATOR | AppliancePartsPros.com

See the attachment for the tech sheet.

If we assume that the new thermostat is OK then it sounds like a defrost timer problem. As you can see in the tech sheet the compressor and fans get power through the timer contacts so perhaps they are dirty/pitted and not closing properly all the time.

When it happens again try just turning the timer cam with a screw driver if it fires up then I would replace the timer.
