Model Number: ED2NHGXT000 Brand: Whirlpool Age: Less than 1 year
My icemaker quit working and a neighbor checked out the water source line and said it was ok. He also looked inside the freezer and thought the line coming in might be frozen. So then I called Sears out (I have a Protection Agreement) and first the technician said it was my filter but wanted to charge me an outrageous price for it. Then he checked the water line on the back of the refrigerator (I had to ask him to do this) and showed me that there was no water coming out of it and it was dry. He had also checked my water dispenser and it wasnt working either. He didnt check the water line back to the source under my kitchen sink. He kept insisting it was a plumbing problem. Could that be so? I hate to pay for a plumber if I dont need to. Since this technician had to be told to check certain things, and wanted to sell me a filter for over $70.00 (yikes!!), I dont know if I should believe him or not. I felt like this repair visit was a complete waste of time. I even called the Repair Center at Sears and told them how I had to ask the tech guy to check certain things and that he didnt check the line back to the source. They told me they dont check the line, except for right at the refrigerator. Please give me some tips on what I can do about getting my icemaker and dispenser working again. Thank you.

If there is no water to the refrigerator then how the ice maker and the water dispenser could work? The water line to the refrigerator, outside of the refrigerator, considered to be a plumbing, so the guy did not lie to you.
I would recommend to check the water shut off valves at the wall (behind the refrigerator) and under the sink before you call a plumber. The water filter has to be replaced at least once a year. You can buy it for $40.94 and the part number for the water filter is AP3866834 Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool refrigerator Model ED2NHGXTQ00 Gene.

Thank you for the fast reply. Regarding the filter part number, when I pulled the filter out and looked at it, the part number on it was 4396841, not the number you gave me. Why the discrepency?
Also, when the tech mentioned the plumber to me, he said I no doubt had plugged up pipes under the sink. If so, wouldnt I have problems with the water to the sink too? I originally had a friend install and hook up the water line to the refrigerator (I needed new tubing because the original, which was metal and was all bent, broken and corroded. Sears wanted to charge me $100 to do this). It worked just fine for about 8 months and then stopped working). I do NOT have a cold water pipe OR a shut off valve behind my refrigerator. The only pipe and valve are under my kitchen sink, therefore my tubing runs from there, out the side of the cabinet, behind the stove (where it moves easily, so its not "stuck" there) and to the back of the refrigerator which is next to the stove. The tech was talking about problems with the pipes under my sink, NOT with the tubing to the refrigerator. I wonder even when I get the water running to the refrigerator if the icemaker and dispenser are going to work because when my neighbor checked it before, the water was fine but the icemaker and dispenser were still not working, that is why he thought the line was frozen at the entry to the freezer (icemaker), which I dont even think the tech guy checked. Sorry I'm going on and on about this but I just cant seem to believe that anything is wrong with my water pipes under my sink. Last edited by phillyk48 : 02-14-2009 at 08:38 AM. |
