Had a repair guy out here and he said that it was the main board, he said it went in through the light in the fridge part. But when I look at the part #AP3950129, it shows it going in through the backside on the freezer side. The part wouldn't even fit in by the light it's too big. I need to know if this is the right part, and how to put it in. IF ANYONE COULD HELP ME PLEASE!!! The fridge isn't that old, don't really want to buy a new one yet.

the defrost light for my GE GSS201EMD WW was part #AP2071523 (WR51X10031) it goes inside the freezer side behind the metal sheet held with screws. Hope this helps

I'm curious..................did you get the part and replace it? Did it work? Our model number was involved in a class action lawsuit, which expired in 2006. I'm sick of trying to get them to replace/repair it, so if I can fix it for 50 bucks or so, I'm willing to do it. Thanks.

Hi Gene,

My refrigerator is a GE GSS201EMD WW. side by side, with ice and water in the door. It was involved in a class action lawsuit years ago, because of the problem I am having. I was not notified of this, so I was unable to participate. The problem is the back of the freezer starts frosting up, and when that happens the top part of the refrigerator starts to get warm and the condenser runs almost continously. Eventually the freezer starts to get warm, from the top down, and so does the entire side of the refrigerator. When I empty the freezer, turn it off, and let it defrost completely, I turn the freezer back on and it works again for awhile. After a week or so, the whole cycle starts again. When I defrost it, there must be ice behind the refrigerator side because the amount of water that comes out is much more than the what's from the ice in the freezer. I've turned to the water off to the ice maker/water dispenser at the wall, so no water is coming in from anywhere. I'm willing to try to repair it myself, but I'm not sure what the problem is. If you can help, I would be eternally grateful! Thank you!

Hi Bernadette,

The problem with your refrigerator is a faulty defrost system. It consists of two parts - the defrost heater (#230 on the break down diagram) and the defrost thermostat (#240 on the break down diagram), and it operates by the main control board (#801 on the break down diagram).

Unplug the refrigerator, remove the wire from the terminal marked "defrost" on the control board and measure the resistance between this wire and the neutral orange wire (pin 9 on the J7 connector). The freezer must be cold at this time.
