Ice Maker inlet frozen

Whirlpool ED2VHGXMQ10
Noticed water on floor. Opened freezer door. Ice on freezer floor and ice auger motor cover. Ice in ice bin frozen into lump. De-iced freezer and all was well for several months.

Occurred again. This time removed Ice maker unit before de-ice. Ice Maker empty. but part number AP3131673 which acts as an inlet funnel had an ice plug where it narrows to allow water into the ice mold AP4365074.

I would assume that the mold heater is not melting the ice properly. But would not the ice stick to the mold? Why work fine for several months then plug again. Then work fine for several months when the plug is thawed and cleared?

Should I replace the mold? Suggestions?

Smac,

A frozen fill tube, is an indication of a few things,

A "sticky" fill valve
Part number: AP5263471
Part number: AP5263471

Low water pressure or clogged water filter, or freezer temperature is too low
(3 to 5 dgrs) is reccomended for proper efficient operation.
The most likely/common is a "sticky" fill valve.

Good Luck,
:) :) :)

Thanks for the quick response. As I tried to explain the fill tube was not frozen. t\The blockage was inlet to the freeze mold, just after the chute drops in to the funnel and goes thru a hole in the mold. The water flowed thru the fill tube an chute just fine. and made ice all over the bottom the compartment. It as just a small amount of ice. Just enough to fill the 1/4" dia fill hole.

I will check the temperature and check the fill valve.

Thanks again

Smac,

We're still dealing with the fill valve and temperature check at this point.
When you get a chance, check and make sure the ice dispenser door flapper is closing and sealing against the chute opening(a flashlight works good).

I'm sure you'll be fine after that.

Good Luck,
:) :) :)

Checked the door seal and ice flapper they seem to be OK
Temperature ranges from 0-20Deg F at ice maker and cycles as the unit runs.
I have noticed a trail of ice in the fill trough. Ice maker works ok aslong as I keep the trough free from ice. Ordered new valve, but it was back ordered. Will advise when valve is installed

Thanks

Smac,

Everything sounds good to go.

Thanks, for the update, I'm sure you'll be fine, once the fill valve is replaced.

We'll keep an eye out for you update post.
