Model Number: GSS25SGRE Brand: GE Age: 5 - 10 years
I recentlly returned home after the winter and discovered that my refrigerator/freezer does not cool in eithet compartment. It was unplugged while I was gone, which is what I do every year, and it was working well before I left. The copressor sounds and feels as though it is running. I tried the diagnostic procedure in your "PSS &GSS service pdf, but I don't have or cannot find the HOLD button that is described in the procedure. The frig does have the single-digit display that looks just like the one pictured on page 34 of the manual and the procedure works described until after I enter the diagnostic code. Do you know of any other method of entering the diagnostic tests that might work on the unit that I have? Thank you.

I looked at the manual and it says to press all 4 temperature adjust buttons at the same time for about 3 seconds (Page 33)
Perhaps you just mis-read the info. If as you say the compressor is running and you have no cooling in the freezer then you have a sealed system problem. This could be a compressor failure, a plug in the sealed system or a freon problem. All the above will be an expensive repair as you will need a pro. There is also no guarantee that the unit will get a long term fix. Often it makes more sense to invest those dollars into a new unit. You could try giving the compressor a good tap as a last resort, perhaps it is just binding mechanically and may come free. Worth a shot but odds of it actually doing anything are low.

I'm sorry. Maybe I didn't explain it well enough.
I can depress the 4 temperature buttons and enter the diagnostic mode with the zero's flashing. My delemia starts when I enter the test codes. The display does not flash after I enter the code and there is no HOLD button that the procedure calls out for me to depress for 3 seconds to begin the test. I have the same control panel that is pictured in the procedure and I don't see the HOLD button in the picture either. I'm thinking that the manual on this website does not cover my refrigerator and was wondering If anyone knows of any other diagnostic procedure that may work for a GE refrigerator with a single-digit display.
