Model Number: 106.53584300 Brand: Kenmore Age: 5 - 10 years
the compressor on this ref. clicks on for about 10 seconds and then back off for about 1 minute and it keeps doing this but it will not get cold. the compressor gets warm while it is doing this.

You probably have a blown compressor start device. This site has one AP3885081, comes with complete instructions.
I would also install a 1000 joule surge protector to prevent future failure, available at Wall Mart.
