My Kenmore Trio refrigerator is freezing items on the top left shelf. The setting is only at 4

What items did you store on the top left shelf? This location is very close to the cold air outlet and is probably one of the coldest areas.
The temperature inside the fresh food compartment is different on different levels and you have to store food according to the temperature. It is described in the "Use and care" manual book for your fridge. If you do not have one I would recommend to order it from Sears.

What is the temperature in the freezer? May be it is too cold?
The cooling system for the fridge is located in the freezer and the fresh food compartment cools down with the air flow from the freezer.
I would recommend you to measure the temperature in the freezer and in the fresh food compartment and keep it under control.

According to FDA recommendations the temperature in the freezer suppose to be about 0 degrees and the temperature in the fresh food compartment suppose to be between 36 degrees to 40 degrees on different levels. Also keep in mind that after any temperature adjustment you have to wait about 24 hours.
