Refrigerator won't defrost. There is frost accumulation on the packages in the freezer compartment. I removed the back panel and observed heavy frost on the coils. Fan is blowing air.
What is needed to repair the defrost mechanism?

Washerman,
The heat cycle started and all of the frost melted from the coils.
I flipped the fan blade on the motor shaft and the air flow is improved. The machine is running less frequently. The fan was replaced last year and may have been installed incorrectly.
Do you recommend replacing the door gasket(s)? This machine is 20 years old.

Thank you.

I have the same problem with my Fridgidaire FRT17B3AW5!

Its a recurring problem. Heater works most of the time, but wont fairly often, ices over. Fan ok, heater ok, .....timer problem?

I had attributed the problem to ice box being too full, and cartons being packed against the back wall, shutting off air flow to lower fridge. The box ices over more often during summer when the swamp cooler is on.

Any help is appreciated!
