Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running?
In order for the unit to cool efficiently it should be running when the compressor is running.
On some units it runs as long as the unit is not in defrost.

Is the condenser/compressor fan running and are the condenser coils under the unit clean?

Measure the freezer temperature, it should be 0 to 5 degrees F.

Evaporator fan is running. Condenser/Compressor fan also running. Condenser coils are clean. Not sure on the temp in the freezer, but everything is frozen and I do have ice.

I would check the freezer temperature could be it is trying to reach an unattainable temperature.
Could be that the thermostat contacts are sticking shut so it just keeps running forever.
Do you have ice cream in it, if the ice cream is like a block of wood then it usually means that the temperature is too low.

I would also check that the door seals are OK.

Could even be that it will take that long just to hit the normal temperatures especially if it is empty.

You could remove the cover inside the freezer so you can check the coils.
They should have a fairly even coating of frost on them.
If not then you may have a low freon situation. Usually you will only see frost in the area where the freon enters the coils if it is low.

Could the control knob that controls the temp be the problem. I keep it on 5. I can turn it down to 0 and it still will not stop running. Only when I turn it off does it stop.

Yes it could.
That is why knowing the freezer temperature is important.
Your 5 setting should get you into the 0 to 5 degree range.

Temp is about 10 to 15. Everything is colder than usual. Maybe because it will not stop running. Everything in freezer is frozen. Ice Cream is not frozen solid. Put a cup of water in freezer and it is frozen solid. Anything other suggestions? Thanks

Your freezer temperature is a little high.

I would remove the cover inside the freezer and check the coils.
They should have a fairly even frost coating.
Note: If you do this right after a defrost cycle there of course will be no frost.

The reason that I think you have a sealed system problem is that the compressor is running full out and the evaporator fan is running trying to reach the set point temperature but for some reason you are just not getting enough cooling.

Here is a good link that may help.

Take a look at the example pictures just above
