Default Refrigerator not cold enough
Brand: Kenmore   Age: 1 - 5 years

I have a bottom freezer refrigerator. I have the fridge set at the coldest setting, but it does not get colder than 40 degrees and most of the time is higher than that. It doesn't seem to run enough, it shuts off before it gets cold. The freezer runs fine.

Hi mfd

In order to provide the most accurate advise I need the complete model number of your fridge.

Gene.

The first thing I would do is check the back panel inside the freezer. If it's covered with a snow then there is a problem with the defrost system. Also check if the evaporator fan is working properly. The fan is located behind the back cover in the freezer and should run when the compressor is running.
Let me know what you found.

Gene.

I checked the back panel in the freezer, there is no frost. Also, the fan seems to be running fine, there is lots of air coming out the back of the freezer and I can hear it running.

Check the damper control in the fresh food compartment now. The gate should be open if the temperature is too warm. If the gate is closed replace the dumper control. Also check for any blockage in the air exchange window.

- The part number for the damper control AP100860

The damper control

Good luck.

Seems like an overheating compressor, pull back panel and check condensing fan and see if the compressor is running really hot.

My refrigerator has been closed all night, I just checked the temperature in the fridge, it is 42 degrees. I have the dial turned to as cold as possible, and the fridge is not running right now. It dosen't seem to run enough.

if the the thermostat is not solid state ,an is the old style thermostat with a sensing bulb ,it can be adjusted to be colder, looking at the thermostat close up, there a small screw which when turned counter clockwise will make the unit [fridge] colder. Only turn this screw no more then 1/8 to 1/4 of a turn. Also check to see if the light is not staying on when door is closed.lol.
