Default Jenn Air JSD2789DEB nto cooling correctly
Model Number: JSD2789DEB   Brand: Jenn-Air   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com
It all started when I noticed the fridge getting warmer. The freezer "seemed" fine, but it was hard to tell. I pulled off the back panel and found the condenser fan motor was not running. I removed it and checked it and it appeared bad. Also, the shaft was very hard to turn. So I ordered a new motor...

Got the new motor and noticed the shaft turned VERY easily, so I installed it, plugged the fridge in a voila, it started right up. I thought the problem was solved, but after 2 days of letting it run (fridge had been off for a few days and was down to room temperature) it seemed it was not getting cold on the fridge side and the freezer side felt like the fridge side USED to feel...

I realized I did not feel any air moving into the fridge or out of the top vents behind the icemaker. So I removed the rear panels and found the evap fan was not running.

At this point I called in a repair shop. The guy came in, said the evap fan motor was bad and began to replace it. After replacing the fan motor, the evap fan started right up.

I was charged $187.50 for the part and the R/R of the part, which I think was a rip off...

Anyway, 2 days after the evap fan motor being replaced, the temps are still not right. It will barely make ice (2 batches in 4 days) and fluctuates between fridge coldness and almost freezing things...

At this point I am lost.... compressor, freon leak, thermostat, defroster??

Need help.... getting ready to buy new fridge if the experts think this one is done.

Make sure both fans are running and the condenser (#9 on the break down diagram) is clean. Remove the rear panel in the freezer and check how the evaporator coil is covered with snow. Normally it suppose to be 100% covered with light snow. Post the results.

Here are the break down diagrams for the Jenn Air refrigerator Model JSD2789DEB

Gene.

I have cleaned the condenser coils already. The evaporator is 100% free of any frost or "snow" except for the tube closest to the fan, it is HEAVILY covered...

My wife just told me the condenser motor has stopped running for a bit... freezer side is getting warmer. Whe it does run, BOTH fans (cond and evap) ar running.

Is it dead?

Sounds like the system is low on Freon (leak somewhere) or the compressor has low capacity. You have to call a certified technician in that case and it could be a costly repair.
