I'm having frost issues in the bottom freezer. Taking off the freezer back panel, I see my coils are heavily frosted.
I forced the heater on in service mode and it does turn on properly.

Does this now point to the control unit or the thermistor?
Is the thermistor the one sitting on the back panel or the one clamped onto the coil?

What should I try next (or replace)?

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for ABL2037FES models | AppliancePartsPros.com

Sounds like you already have the tech sheet as you were able to force a defrost but see the attachment just in case you do not have it.

I would do the thermistor tests if they pass then odds are the control board is the problem.

Thanks for the info. I'll likely pick up the thermistor too, just in case (it did pass the service test).

Can you confirm the parts I need?
Frost Kit (Controls) - Diagram 3-5
Thermistor - Diagram 4-29

Is that the correct themistor?
Does the thermostat (Diagram 4-NI) come with the frost kit?

Another question,
Is there a parts site similar to this webpage for Canadians (APP doesn't ship international)?

Thanks for your help.

Here is the install sheet for this kit, I tried to use attach on this site but the file is too big so I used Datafilehost.
Download 16027095.pdf

Yes it does look like the kit includes the board and the thermostat.
Note: I just volunteer here so do not have a lot of part info. and am therefor not 100% sure.

Looks like 4-29 is the freezer thermistor AND 3-22 is the fresh food thermistor.

You should be able to get the parts from an Amana/Maytag/Whirlpool dealer or repair shop.

Denman,
It looks like the install kit instruction you attached is for an older side-by-side model.
Do you have one for top/bottom?

Is it the freezer thermistor or the thermostat that comes with the frost kit that controls the defrost cycle?

No, I was only able to find the attached one by using the data sheet number from the AppliancePartsPros pictures and then hunting for that.

Looks like the thermostat.

Just to update the thread...
Ordered and installed a new control board. I must admit, I was a little doubtful it was the board at first (all service tests passed and it's hard to believe just the auto-defrost part of the board would fail) but after a month in service, everything is working great.

Thanks for all your help.
