This is a Kenmore side-by-side (106.56546400) that is about 3 years old. Daughter tried to get ice at lunch to no avail. Opened freezer door and ice bucket was empty. When I lift the icemaker service door, I can feel solid ice cubes, but there is no function. Red light at on/off switch is flashing twice, pause, flashing twice. I unplugged the refrigerator for several minutes and plugged it back in to see if it would reset. Please help.

here is how you test the ice maker. look at the ice maker, and look at the fingers that knock the ice out. they should be looking at you, and be just above the horizon of the ice maker. if not replace the motor module. if all is well there, you will see a black hose where the water goes into the ice maker, squeeze it, and if it is hard, defrost it with the blow dryer, if it is soft, replace the emitter kit. that is the flashing light, and the reciever on the other side. tom

Tried the test procedure described at Appliance Junk by jumpering T and H slots. The main gear wheel wiggled slightly back and forth, but nothing happened.

Well, it's not the motor. Took the unit out, let it thaw out. Dumped ice and reinstalled it. Motor kicked on and turned fingers to regular position. There was no water fill, but I guess the thermostat wasn't cold enough to allow that. Will report back tomorrow a.m. Hopefully, it just needed a reset after the power outage stopped the mechanism at the wrong spot.

Alot of times the motor gets weak, or the heater goes to open circuit. But, you should have water after the test. It could very well be the water valve. Tom

Tom: First of all, thanks for your help. Now the icemaker cycles but the fingers stop at random positions. There is no water fill. I can hear a noticeable click, which should be the fill switch triggering but there is no fill. The LED blinks twice and pauses when the door is opened, but when I push the flapper in to get the infrared beams to connect the LED goes solid red. Do you think it's the control panel or just time to replace the icemaker?

BTW, I did squeeze the fill tube and it is not frozen, and the in-door water dispenser works fine.

Most likely the problem is a bad ice maker.

- The APP part number for the ice maker is AP3182733 and you can buy it for $141.10 (compare to $154.99 - Sears price).

Thanks Gene and Tom:
I decided to take the module assemby off the unit and it didn't take long to spot the problem. The copper contacts for the rear heater pin had eroded, probably from arcing from a poor connection. I put a bead of solder on both sides of the affected contact and I'm back in the High Life again. While I'm at it, can you guys tell me why that particular unit is so much higher than the rest.
