Hi there. I've been using other related posts on this site to fix the problem of the freezer part of my side by side leaking puddles onto the floor. With that help I have managed to remove the rear evaporator shroud to find the drain blanketed in ice. I'm using boiling water to clear this but am not sure how to know if it is working or done.

Mainly I am wondering how I know when it is cleared and also how do I know when my drain pan is full or overflowing. I believe it is not removable so I'm not sure if I should just keep on with the water and not worrying about the overflow or what. I also didn't know if I can solve the problem solely through boiling water into the drain or if I have to pull the thing away from the wall and open up the back. I'm not sure I can handle that portion of repair work.

Any tips/help is much appreciated!

Hot water would do the trick or a hair drier to thaw all the water. The hair drier in my opinion is the best idea so you don't over flow the drain pan.

Well I spent the day using hot water first, getting nervous since I seemed to keep pouring water in but wasn't sure how full my drip pan was getting or if the drain and drain tubing was getting unclogged. Then I switched to the hair dryer, which was good since the clois has some frost/light ice on them. I left it to sit and dry a bit.

Came back to check on it and sure enough there was a HUGE puddle coming out from underneath. I assume that means I was at least somewhat succesful in clearing the drain so that the water I was pouring in finally overflowed the crip pan creating the puddle. I cleaned all that up, made sure the inside was dry and have turned the freezer back on. Hopefully I'm right and it's cleared!
