Model Number: ED22PQXDW02 Brand: Whirlpool Age: 5 - 10 years
When my icemaker empties, it overfills by alot which flows into the ice bin and even into the frezzer below. It also seem like the ice has a hard time ejecting (I assume because its overfilled). Will replacing the water valve fix it?
The original part# was 2181730, but all the parts sites I went on showed it as 2188542. What about this? |

Hi Dave
Does the ice maker overflow or it's leaking through? If it's leaking then the ice maker has to be replaced. If it's overflowing then you can try to adjust the amount of water coming into the ice maker first, before replacing any parts. Remove the front cover from the ice maker and you'll find the adjustment screw on the right side. Turn it half way clock wise and check how it will fill up. Possible you'll have to turn it more. Let me know if adjustment helped. - The part number for the new ice maker AP2984633 The part number for the water inlet valve has been changed by the Whirlpool. Good luck. Gene.

I do not think the problem is a bad water valve. If water flow to the ice maker stops then most likely the problem is the ice maker itself. Gene.

Listening to the water flow when its refilling, I can tell that the water is flowing into the ice tray much longer than it used to before I had the problem. I just figured that the valve was staying open too long and was defective. What do you think?

Did you do the adjustment?

Do you have the water dispenser on your fridge as well?
If you do then switch around plugs on the water valve, push the lever for the drinking water and monitor the water feeding tube for the ice maker. If water flow to the ice maker stops right after you released the drinking water lever then replace the ice maker. If not - replace the water valve. Keep me updated, please. Gene.

Most icemakers have a water fill for around 9 seconds. If you empty icemaker mold, fill for 9 seconds and it overflows, you have a bad water solenoid. or low water pressure to it.
