The other day my side by side fridge started making an intermittent noise coming from the control box. It was a very low, annoying, humming/chirping/pinging sound and I can see the panel dim every time it made the sound. It stopped shortly after but just started again two days later. It also appears the temp of both the fridge and freezer are rising and nothing is cooling. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Pat

Check the compressor in the back. It probably is not running, just overheating.

Thanks for the quick reply...

That makes sense and it did seam like it could be the load of trying to start the compressor over and over. I turned it off in the middle of the night because it was driving me crazy and I also thought it might not be a good to keep letting it do that as it could burn out the control board or something else.

I will turn it back on when I get home and see if it the compressor heats up. If so, that's what I should replace? Can I do that myself?

The unit is about 5 years old and I just replaced the ice maker and don't want to keep throwing good money after bad. I also noticed that the fridge door gets very hot around the edge by the rubber gasket and hope that is not the sign of another issue.

Thanks again for your help...
Pat
