I have a whirlpool side by side about a month ago first the freezer started defrosting, thought the door might have been left cracked open over night because it started freezing just fine and again it repeated the same thing about 2 weeks ago defrosting (not to thaw out everything except soft foods like ice cream and breads) than back to working great. Than the night before last not only did the freezer do its crazy defrost also the refrigerator stopped cooling. Removed everything from both sides to be ready for a repair service to fix it and yesterday it started working great again. My big problem is the repair service says unless it’s not working it would be hard to duplicate the problem to know what is bad. I would like to know if this is a problem you have had in the past and maybe possible to trouble shot. Thanks

Cannot find any info on the given model number, please check it. MODE is not a model number prefix at least it is not for USA units.

Than the night before last not only did the freezer do its crazy defrost also the refrigerator stopped cooling. Since the fresh food side on most units gets it's cooling from the freezer you would expect this. Usually cooling problems show up first in the freezer and then in the fresh food side as the freezer temperature rises.

You have to do some trouble shooting when it is not cooling. Is the compressor running? Is the condenser/compressor fan running? Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running? If the compressor is running and the evaporator fan is not it could be just a fan problem re: it is not starting reliably. The fan is required to pull air through the evaporator coils so that it can be cooled. It also forces cold air into the fresh food side.
If the unit uses an analogue thermostat (a dial/knob) to regulate the temperature it could be it is sticking open. If you can get the unit to start up by just turning it or giving it a tap then it would be at the top of my list as the possible culprit.
Could also be the unit is sticking in a defrost cycle. In this case the compressor and fans will be off. If it has a defrost timer rotate the cam with a screw driver to see if the unit will start up. Note: Depending on the unit a sticking thermostat may also turn everything off. |
