Our Whirlpool side by side refrigerator ED5CHQXKB03 started smelling funny this morning with a buzzing sound evERy couple of minutes. Checked Embraco EGY90HLP compressor and found problem with the Relay/Overload switch. After removing this part it rattled insde the relay and turning it over noted that it was melted badly. Closer view showed one of the 3 connection post on the compressor was melted and bent slightly. The post itself has even enlarged somewhat from the melting.

Refrigerator compressor and fan ran constantly, stayed cold but compressor was hot. No frosting on copper pipes or cooling fins.

Can this post still be used if straightened or is there problems with the compressor?

You will need to straighten the pin and use a dremell to grind down the metal, then order the start device AP3885081, comes with instructions.
Once running, measure the freezer temperature and post, may have other problems.

Tried to straighten Post but it broke, leavng a small stub. Any type of Unviersal Relay/Overload kit that can repair this?

If less then a 1/4 inch stub, the only kit that will work is AP4503418, comes with instructions.
The kit shows the compressor start pin on the bottom, left. Unfortunately, some odball compressors are reversed, I had a Techumsa compressor last week and it was on the bottom right!
If you know the start pin is on the bottom,left, you will be ok.
If you have a meter, the resistance from the common pin to the start pin should be higher than the resistance from the common to run.

Thank you for your assistance. A friend of mine was able to connect a Relay switch even with the 1/4" post and get it working. Running well but will keep an eye on t for a while.
