I have a broken shut off arm. The tiny plastic hinge broke, which is a design flaw in my opinion. How is this repaired? Must I replace the ice stripper too with the arm?

Just came accross your question. The arm snapped off on my kenmore ice maker, too. The husband thinks i or my son were just too rough but YES! it is a poor design. Does the whole ice maker need to be replaced? Can i unplug it to stop the ice from being made?

Since I got no help from this forum, and parts I ordered were not correct, I just shoved the wire arm back into the tiny hole which is hard to see. The arm in the hole will operate the ice maker to shut off and on, and lift up to automatically shut off. But sometimes excess frozen foods will knock the wire out of the hole when it is either on or off and you have to stick it in again, so watch the supply of ice it makes. The hole is hard to see since it is best seen with a mirror to guide you. Once you get good at sticking it back in you can feel for the hole like it's braille and stick it in. The hole is behind the face closest to you above the ice container on my fridge.

If you can't do this you must just shut off the water from the valve in the pipe where the water line is attached. My refridgerator has a flexible wire covered water supply like you would see from your toilet to the shut off below it.
