I just fixed one today. The evaporator thermistor was missing from a previous boched repair and the defrost thermostat was blown out.The fridg just hung up in defrost like yours. With the infinite resistance of the thermistor, the computer sensed -40 degrees which represents high resistance per the chart I put in the sticky for these refrigerators.
You can check the motherboard pin J1-5 to J1- 2 for the thermistor resistance value.

Rich, I did your above recommendation and the thermistors tested 5.8 6.2 & 5.8 on the 20k scale. Any other suggestions? I found this information on appliance-repair-it.com "If the fan is running but the compressor is not, then the main board is more than likely the problem. But it could also be start relay. If the start relay is bad the compressor will try to start every so often (every 3-5 minutes). If this is happening replace the start relay and if not the main board is the problem". This kinda goes back to your original comment about a possible bad solder joint. Of course my compressor doesn't run at all. So between J8 and orange on the motherboard I should have 115v. I don't, so that points to a motherboard problem. There is a comp relay on the motherboard is this replaceable? or are there test points to point to a low/high voltage problem on the board. Thanks again for your reply. |
