ge fridge and freezer quit cooling. I cleaned dust off and unfroze coils with hair dryer. Now it cools good like it use to, but won't cycle on and off. Do I need a defrost thermostat? It runs constantly.

Pull the refrigeration out of the wall and check if the fan next to the compressor is running. It should be on while the compressor is on.

Remove the rear panel in the freezer and check how the evaporator coils are covered (if they are covered) with snow. Post the results.

Would it stop if you turn the temperature control slowly to the lowest numbers?

Exclamation fridge won't stop running

I have the same problem as another gentleman had in 2007. I have a refrigirator (Frigidair) model GLHS68EJSB - built in 07 2008. Fridge won't stop unless it's going through the thawing cycle of the freezer. The fan is on at the bottom of the fridge as well as the compressor. Inside the freezer, there's also a fan that won't stop though. The underside is all clean and there's no dust. I dismantled the panel inside the freezer and the coils look all ok. The problem started when the fridge went on beeping the "door ajar" beeps (5 beeps every minute). I usually unplug it and leave it for a while but yesterday, it started displaying freezer at 30 some degrees F and the fridge at 67F. Thing is, the freezer was below 32F - (as everything was frozen) and the fridge was cold too. Not understanding why it was showing these readings.

Anyhoo, any help would be great.

What are the temperature settings in both compartments?

What is exact measured temperature in both compartments?

The model number you posted is incomplete.

The temp setting for freezer is 2F currently and fridge portion is 37F

Here's the model number again: GLHS68EJSB0 (the "0" at the end, wasn't sure it was part of it or not...)

Fridge has been working ok for a few days but experience tells me that it'll start again with the beeping (5 beeps every min). I noticed the fridge was going through its cycles (pan under is getting the water drips from the defrosting cycle)).

One questions: If it's set at 2F and 37F, wouldn't the fridge stop and take a rest??? Just keep on chugging along and then seems to stop only for the defrost cycle.

I did not go through a complete thawing process with the freezer portion. Do you think I should do that? (Say... raise the temp over 32F for the freezer and let it thaw for a day or 2 and reset it back to 2F)..

I would buy a two mercury refrigerator thermometers

and measure the temperatures in both compartments first. Poist the results and we'll go from there.

I bought a digital therm. and it fluctuates at +-1 degree for both fridge side and freezer side. It's been 5 days and I'm wondering why it hasn't done the beeping problem now? It's usually kicking in at a couple of days. It can't fix itself right? By dismantling the back plate in the freezer compartment, I wonder if I "helped" doing something...
