A few weeks ago I had a problem with the freezer icing up - it looked like Alaska when I opened the door. I cleaned it all out, gave the defrost timer a manual turn and it seems to have been OK for a while. However this evening I noticed that everything in the door of the freezer had defrosted and the defrost heater area (which is right by the door) was very warm. So I'm presuming that a few weeks ago the defrost timer got stuck in the off position and now it's got stuck in the on position.

This model of WW was manufactured for the European market so I can't find any parts or service info on any web site, but I'm assuming that physically the Fridge is the same as some other model number which was designed for the US market.

If I can get access to the defrost timer, then I'm sure I can find a timer motor which will fix the problem, but I can't work out how to get to the timer.

The fridge control and the defrost timer are in the same housing at the top of the fridge in the center. From the control housing is a tube about 8 inches long which points towards the back of the fridge. The tube is attached to the control housing and the top of the fridge and I can't work out how to free it so I can get access to the defrost timer. Any help would be appreciated.

Your defrost timer is in the compressor (unit) compartment.

Are you sure ? There's certainly a timer of some sort in the control housing, next to the fridge temperature control. I managed to take a photo. You can see a time of some sort mounted next to the temperature control and the pipe which seems to be attached to both the top of the fridge and the control housing, coming off the back of the control housing (below the bulb).

HHMMMMMMMM All of the diagrams I have, though not for the exact model number you posted show the timer in the unit compartment.
If it is in the control housing, the housing should allow you to swing it down to remove the timer. You may have to gently pinch the housing to disengage it from the body.

Thanks, problem is the tube which comes out of the control housing is atached to the control housing and the top of the fridge. I can't see how to detach it from one or the other and I don't want to break it trying.

However having another look this morning I don't know if the Alaska experience and the defrosted food in the door are related.

The whole back of the freezer is frozen up again, which to me suggests a problem with the defrost circuitry so presumably it could be the timer, coil heater or defrost thermostat. I need to find the coil heater so I can diagnose which one.

The front has presumably defrosted because of the mullion heater, but I don't know if that's because the mullion heater has a thermostat, which isn't working and thus it's always on, or whether it's just because the freezer coil is so frozen up that it's not working very effeciently. The circuit diagram I have indictes that some models have a thermostat on the mullion heater and others don't.
