Hi,

I just got home from a weeks vacation, to find my Fridge/Freeser was warm inside. I could here something running, which i presume was the fan.

I have moved it away from the wall and removed the cover off the back to see if i can detect a symptom. The fan is running, which is blowing/pulling air away from the compressor.

I disconneded the fan, as it was making noise and i couldn't here the compressor. I switched the fridge back on, and heard and audible click like a contactor making. I could then here a faint hum, like an electric motor trying to start but couldn't. After a short while, there was another click and the hum went away.

Does this mean i have a bad compressor, or does it have sometype of starting circuit that may have gone south? If the compressor is bad, what is a better option, replace the compressor or the whole fridge (from a cost stand point).

Thanks
Steve

In addition, I have removed, what i presume is the starter and overload. When i shake the starter (the overload remained on the compessor) it rattles (though contactors sometimes do) and black dust/grit falls out. Could this indicate a bad starter?

Thanks
Steve

Replaced the Starter part and the Fridge/Freezer is working fine.

Thank-you Denman!
