The left door of my Whirlpool french door fridge is slightly mis-aligned (too low), and I was told it could be raised by inserting a washer at the lower hinge. That door has both an ice/water dispenser and a touchscreen lcd display, so I'm a little leary of just diving right in...any help with removing the door would be appreciated. Also, if there's a common size washer that is used for this type of thing, please let me know.

There's several things you should do first,

Make sure the refrigerator is level in both directions, and all 4 feet/rollers are on the floor, solid.

Check the freezer door for level side to side and that the freezer door panel, is level top to bottom.

+++After that, if you need to, unplug the power cord or turn off breaker in box, you DON'T want this unit powerred up for the rest of the checks, repairs +++

Open the left door and remove the plastic hinge cover, you'll find the water supply tube and wire harness to the dispenser assembly, disconnect the tube(twist fit 1/4 turn CCW, and unplug harness).

Remove the three screws holding the hinge to the cabinet top and lift door up and off the lower hinge pin.

Check and make sure the lower hinge plate, is not bent or twisted.

Here are some shims, you can use if needed:

67005716 Black / thick
R9800056 Black / thin
R9800058 White / thick

These are older part numbers and may substitute over to a different part number, but they will work.
