My whirlpool refridgerator blew a resistor off the back of the control board located under it to the left(facing) of the compressor. Its in the white box. It has 3 small relays, a small coil, severl resistors, etc. I removed the box to find that one of the thin carbon film style resistors on the back on the PCB to be blown completely off the board. I have ordered the replacment from your website, however, i am interested in the cause of the issue.

When I opened the fridge door this am I heard the pop, then the lights went dead. The fridge and freeze appear to be in working order and cooling. What I dont want to do is put the new part on and have it blow the resistor again.

Any help is appreciated.

Here is your parts breakdown
Model GD5RHAXNQ00

Here are two tech sheets (03 and 07). Do not know which applies to your unit.

Unfortunately I do not have schematics for the board but you may be able to trace it from the plug and get an idea what cicuit that resistor is for.
You will definitely need a meter
Since it blew when you opened the door a would suspect a problem in the fridge light circuit.

Unplug the unit
Unplug P2 from the board check pin 3 to WHite should be approximately 100 ohms, If they are using 40 watt bulbs.

It is a normal repair on that model. I replace a ton of them. If it happens again, you would need to replace the overload and relay kit, with a hard start kit. The part # is RCO410. Tom
