Model Number: ARB224RCW Brand: Amana Age: 1 - 5 years
Did Amana make 2 different Overloads in 2003? I have attached the photo to show what I am talking about. Here is the transcript from the help center:
**Update: So, I don't know where to get this other Overload. I plugged the new one in without plugging in the piece that won't fit and air is circulating, but I don't know how safe it is. I have an Amana refrigerator I purchased in March of 2003. The model number is ARB224RCW and the serial number is 10013868CV. The diagnosed problem was a relay and I was told that part # 12555902 would fix it. Problem is, I took the part to the Maytag store along with that specific part number and they are not identical It plugs directly into the refrigerator, but the power supply doesn't fit Dave: Click here for part info Jonathan: Yes, I have looked at this picture and it is what I got from the Maytag store Jonathan: It does not work on my refrigerator Jonathan: everything on my Overload is the same as this part except the right hand plug Jonathan: mine requires a plug for 2, not just one as pictured Dave: One moment please Jonathan: thank you Jonathan: this is what my piece looks like: Jonathan: Dave: Based on the model number you provided that is the correct part for your appliance. Jonathan: I understand Jonathan: but it still doesn't fix the fridge Jonathan: I was told there was a special order required by Maytag for the one prong Jonathan: they don't have a 2 prong Ads By Google Related Models |

Glad to help!! Although according to the parts breakdown he first one posted is supposed to be the correct one. That doesn't mean somene hadn't switched it along the way.

It looks like there might be a 3rd make:
Part Details - WHIRLPOOL Overload, relay, part number: AP4078361 Any idea what the difference might be between them? I have the same problem on an Amana ARB2217CB. The APP cross references show that ARB2217CB, ARB2517CB and ARS2661BB all use the same replacement compressor and capacitor, but each lists a different relay (two with the connector shown, but the one for me is the one with the connector that won't fit.) I could see different model to fit different wiring harnesses, but Part Details - WHIRLPOOL Overload/relay, part number: AP4077400 only seems to differ from the one above by the color of the dot (and the one I ordered doesn't even have one.) Depending on the model, these are all used with the same compressor and capacitor. Any ideas on differences? Are they safe to interchange? My main concern is if they might have different points where teh overload kicks in, but they are listed for use on the same compressors. ...very confusing. Any advice would be much appreciated. In another thread, the recommendation was to cut the harness and use the listed replacement, but I hate to do that if it's just a hiccup in the parts database. Jim |

All these start devices must provide an internal klixon and a PTC device to provide cold start current (5- 10 ohm cold) to the compressor start winding, usually the bottom left pin. They must be compatible with the compressor pin out. If not, the suppliers would be in serious trouble. Only difference is the refrigerator plug might be different. They all must provide the run capacitor pins to allow the capacitor to plug into.
