My freezer has thawed out twice before and I took the panel off the back and defrosted it. I then cleaned the coils and it continued to work until a few weeks ago. The ice started to melt so I repeated the thawing and cleaning and turned the thermostats on both sides all the way down. This didn't help so I called a repairman. He opened the doors and said it was the fan and he would be back the next day. Luckily both sides and the water started to work before he returned. He decided it couldn't be the fan because the are not intermitant. He turned the temp controls up and called me two days later to see what happened. The freezer went back to 40 and the frig between 50-60. So this made him think it was the temperature unit and if one was out they both were probably out. I didn't call him back because I don't want to pay $200 for parts alone that may or may not be the problem. Any suggestions where to start? It seems unlikely to me that both would go out at the same time that it must be a part after the two units come together.
