Default Water freezing in bottom of freezer
Model Number: ED2FHEXST02   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

Water is freezing on the bottom of the freezer, slowly melting and leaking out door. Using a hair dryer I am able to melt the ice and dry things out but it only lasts about a week and then reappears. What can be causing this and how do we fix it ??

Sounds like it could possibly be a blocked drain in the freezer. There should be a drain on the bottom of the freezer in the back that allows the water to drain out(during the defrost cycle) to a catch pan at the bottom of the refrigerator. If the drain is blocked, then the water (from defrosting) has no where to go but out the door around the door gasket.

How do I access the drain hole to clean it out ??

It should be located just below the evaporator coils at the bottom back of the freezer compartment. You'll want the freezer to be thawed (preferably) because sometimes the drain hole may be iced over blocking it up. If this is the case, a heat gun or hair dryer will aid in thawing & clearing the drain. If it is not simply blocked by frozen water, You may have to pull the frige away from the wall & remove the lower panel cover & look for the drain pan & locate the drain hose. Once located, try blowing into the hose to check for an obstruction. An air compresser set at low pressure (about 40-50 psi) usually works good

I just looked at the parts break catalog on your model refrigerator & under "cabinet parts" breakdown, there it shows the drain (#18) and the drain spout (#19)
