My ice maker has had this flaw since I bought it. I had Sears out to repair it before it ran out of warranty, and even after their repair, the door failed to shut. As a result, frost builds up and the icecubes in the hopper form a solid block. We have resigned ourselves to not using the dispenser, but opening the door and taking cubes out the old-fashioned way. Then, every 2 or 3 weeks we remove the hopper and dump out the ice, which has frozen to a solid block. We also then chip the frost and ice from the chute between the bin and the door.

Now I'd like to know if I can fix this myself, since the supposed pro who tried was unable to. I fear that the entire unit is just a poorly designed piece of junk. Recommendations?
