This sounds like a defrost problem.
Could be the heater, terminator, or timer. Locate the defrost timer. Usually behind the control panel in the frig side. If you have a "manual" timer you can turn it to a defrost cycle and see if the heater comes on. If it does, replace the timer. If not, you can check continuety on the heater and terminator. The terminater must be cold enough to be closed. Whichever component does "not" show continuety is bad. http://www.upthemileage.com http://www.appliancerepair-shiawassee.com |

If you mean that there is ice on the floor of the freezer compartment then the drain hose from under the evaporator coils to the drip tray under the unit is probably blocked.
Open the unit up and remove the evaporator coil cover from inside the freezer. Let it melt, to speed things up you can use a hair dryer. I think removing the front kick plate will let you get at the drip tray. Check that the hose is not clogged up with dust etc. Use a wire, compressed air or a turkey baster filled with warm water to flush out the drain tube. If you see any evidence of stuff growing in the drain tube it is a good idea to flush it out with a 10% bleach solution. Flush it, let it sit for 15 minutes then flush again. Do this several times. This should kill the algae and let you flush it out. Just be careful to not overflow the drip tray and wear old clothes unless you like white blotches on your jeans etc. Make sure the path on the freezer floor to the drain hole is clean and there is nothing that can slow down the water as it drains. If when you removed the evaporator cover the coils are iced/frosted up to the point where the fan cannot pull air through them then you have a defrost problem. You did not mention any problem with the unit's temperatures and normally a defrost problem will give a high fresh food temperature and eventually a higher freezer temperature.
